Bathroom Remodel:
Midrange to high-end bathroom remodeling
Bathrooms can be a lot of fun for us designers for 2 reasons:
1. Bathrooms are quick and easy to design.
2. Bathrooms are the one area in the house that can show the most dramatic        improvements.
So, when considering your bathroom project there are 10 basic areas to consider:
1. The fixtures in your bathroom can really drive up cost. Chrome or polished-nickel would be in the midrange category. Brushed nickel and oil-rubbed bronze would be in the high-end category.
2. You may want to invest a bit more money than buying a shower rod. Sliding- glass doors would be in the midrange category while frameless shower glass doors falls into the high-end category.
3. A painted accent wall can really give your bathroom some flair.
4. When considering upgrading your shower area a nice rain showerhead could be a good addition and you will find most shower heads are inexpensive.
5. Also, in the shower area a high-end upgrade would be adding a body spray kit or a steamer.
6. Most homes come standard with a vanity with a cultured marble countertop. However, a mid to high end upgrade would be to go to the local granite dealer and have a countertop cut for you (the way to get value out of the vanity in the bathroom is by having an under mount sink which is compatible with granite or corian).
7. Recessed lighting is a good midrange improvement in the bathroom. A waterproof recessed light over the shower is a high-end way to add value in the bathroom.
8. For the handicapped, walk-in tubs are a fabulous way of being able to soak your bones in a tub safely designed for the handicapped. Most come equipped with hydro and air jets. Also, you can opt for a raised vanity and a raised toilet.
9. It may be a good idea to rip out your built in linen closet and install one that matches the vanity. This will give you a more open feel in the bathroom.
10. If your bathroom seems overly small, donÔÇÖt fret because you can always re-design within load bearing walls. A lot of homeowners are doing pocket doors into the bathroom to utilize more space in the bathroom (especially the corners).
P.S. Discuss ideas amongst your family before bringing in a contractor. Remember, if you fail to plan then you plan to fail.
